After the viewpoints learning of fieldwork, each group surveyed the distribution of garbage such as cigarette butts and investigated the reasons for their disposal. At the same time, students also carried out cleaning activities. After learning how to create geographic information data, each group represented the survey results in geometric symbol maps. Representatives of each group performed oral presentations using overlays of geometric symbol maps. Each group discussed measures to improve the local environment with reference to the results of its own survey and the contents presented by other groups. The students were able to experience active learning on the local environment with fieldwork through this training. GIS analysis on the distribution of cigarette butts showed that the most discarded places are the outside of non-smoking restaurants, the periphery of non-smoking public spaces, and areas about 300 meters away from the railway station.
