As part of the conservation and restoration work conducted under the aegis of Center for the Global Study of Cultural Heritage and Culture, this study estimates the quality of bedrocks at Idout in Saqqara. The Mastaba Idout was built around 2360 B.C. at Saqqara in Egypt. The underground burial chamber of Mastaba Idout contains weak bedrock. The condition and quality of the bedrock were studied and 4 kinds of strengthening methods for the same were considered. This paper reports the results of quality tests conducted on the bedrock in Egypt and of quality test for coating agents for soil and stones in Japan. The quality tests include measuring the frequency of the accelerating wave generated by hitting the rock surface with an impact hammer. The repair methods include strengthening using a coating agent for the soil and stones and injecting the cracks with a non-shrink cement slurry. This work demonstrated that the weak bedrock exhibited very low quality. The strengthening methods were found to be effective for the bedrock in Egypt. As a result of quality test for coating agents for soil and stones, it was found that OHlOO has good permeability, moisture permeability and small bad effects for compressive strength of rocks. |
