In this study, the application of n-alkanols as a prospective method is considered, and the antifungal activity of those agents having different carbon numbers in a relatively short alkyl chain of the molecule, methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), n-propanol (n-PrOH), n-butanol (n-BuOH) and n-pentanol (n-PeOH), on Aspergillus niger and Penicillium funiculosum was investigated in the agar gel phase by using a Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). The antifungal activity was evaluated by the rate of increase in the colony area on the plate after cultivation at 30℃, and the minimum concentration required for expression of inhibitory activity (IC₀), the concentration required for 50% inhibition (IC₅₀), and the minimum concentration required for complete inhibition (IC₁₀₀) were also estimated. As a result, the antifungal activity of tested n-alkanols increased with an increase in the concentration of the agent. Also n-alkanols with a longer alkyl chain in the molecule demonstrated more marked activity at lower concentrations. With EtOH, a slight enhancement of growth was observed in a limited range of low concentration. The inhibitory activity of n-alkanols was different between the fungal strains used. It seems that the penetration of n-alkanol molecules into the interior of a fungal spore and/or mycelium was critical for the inhibitory activity and that the hydrophobicity of both the n-alkanol molecule and the fungal spore and/or mycelium may affect the antifungal activity.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Other"},{"subitem_description":"壁画におけるカビ汚染防止対策の1つとして、本研究ではn-アルカノールに着目し、とくに従来から抗カビ剤として汎用されるEtOHとともに、MeOHやそれらよりも炭素鎖長が長いn-PrOH、n-BuOHとn-PeOHのカビ発育阻害作用の特性について比較検討した。対象カビは好湿性のA.njgerとP.funiculosumであり、n-アルカノールの作用様式の点から、ここではまず碁本実験系として寒天ゲル相での作用力について検討した。カビはPDA平板上、30℃で発育させた。n-アルカノールのカビ発育阻害における作用特性を、コロニー形成過程の経時変化に基づく発育面積増加速度の阻害率(Iᵣ)、阻害作用発現開始濃度(IC₀)、50%発育阻害濃度(IC₅₀)、最小発育阻止濃度 (IC₁₀₀)の値によって評価した結果、作用は全般的にn-アルカノールの濃度が高くなるほど強く、またその炭素鎖長が長くなるほど阻害作用は低濃度で強くなった。それらの低濃度域では、寒天ゲル相でもEtOHにわずかながら発育促進の傾向が認められた。A.
