| 内容記述 | It is well known that Ogyu Sorai, the representative thinker in Edo period, emphasis the Heaven as transcendental existence and far beyond the human beings' understanding level. This paper focuses on the Sorai's agnosticism of the Heaven. Although the intention of the Heaven can't be grasped by the human beings, the probable direction of the Heaven's will could be comprehended by the Saint, usually with the help of augury. It is no fiction or obscurantist policy for the Saint to do so. Sorai just strictly reject the idea that the Heaven or its will could be understood by one rule, therefore even the Saint could know no more that some probability. In the second chapter, I make a further analysis on the thesis of "know the mandate of heaven (Tianming)", which Sorai always emphasized as the fundamental condition of being a gentleman (Junzi). It is obvious that mandate of heaven refers to the calling of getting all the people settled, and the problem is since the heaven's will can't be comprehended, why are we able to "know" the mandate of heaven? I argued that even though life-and-death law was universal in the world, "the heart of heaven" seems to appreciate life than death (shengsheng), thus the Saint percept it and inherit the heart of heaven to bring up the common people, even though "heart of heaven" was really not be understood by anyone in the world. So far as we obey the instruction of the Saint in Sorai' opinion, the gentlemen posterity regard the teaching of "shengsheng" as the absolute truth, which is also the name of "know the mandate of heaven". | |||||
