| 内容記述 | Prior research on Japanese medieval education can be traced back to early Edo Period; however its full, comprehensive development began during the Taisho Era. Scholars f the likes of Shunjo Takahashi who is considered to be a pioneer, offered not only educational facilities and teaching materials but also taught significant issues such educational activities of monks in the form of lesson outlines. The activities extended further to include the activities of the commoners and the recommended textbooks. Medieval Japan was once considered the Dark Age of education. Thanks to efforts of these scholars the education had been re-evaluated. Since Taisho Era various studies on education had been conducted but with lesser popularity. Based on the research it can be noted that medieval education can be distinguished into three components: educational facilities such as schools, individual educational activities and education within clans. Based on these three components I will revise the previous research on Japan's medieval education, discussing its concept in history and also overview its future prospects. | |||||
