内容記述 | The establishment of the regency government and the rise of Jodo shu (Pure Land Buddhism) in Japan around the end of the 10th century into the11th century were closely tied together. These phenomena occurred in the context of turmoil in East Asia such as military clashes between the Song Dynasty and the Liao Empire and the growing power of the Jurchen tribes. In other words, foreign relations rather than domestic issues drove policies in Japan at that time, which led to the endorsement of Jodo Buddhism. This paper discusses this matter with reference to nyohokyo, copying of the hokekyo, which is a ritual initiated in 1031 in Mount Hiei, the headquarters of the Tendai Buddhism. | |||||
