We taught basic life support (BLS) to elementary school students so as to determine the efficacy of introducing it into school curricula. In addition, we considered changes in thought about and perceptions of BLS and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skill after the lesson. AS a result, we found that children thought that moral knowledge and education of life were necessity and already had these skills and know ledge prior to the lesson. In addition, we found an improvement concerning the students, thoughts concerning BLS. In addition, we found that the children were able to perform chest compressions properly. Therefore, the lesson concerning BLS is effective among elementary school students in improving the rates of Bystander CPR and Bystander AED in Japan.
