Hinpun, which is one of the Characteristics for the accommodation amongst the South West Archipelago and is placed behind the gate as a charm as well as a blindfold for the house, is one of such items facing to decline and disappearance. Such tendency is not only observed amongst Okinawa region but also remarked amongst Miyako region. Amongst the isles of Yaeyama rigion, however the tradition of Hinpun still remains strongly. For instance, within Obama Island where the author explored this time,even accommodations of recent construction have Hinpun. One of the reasons could be that Hinpun in this particular island still works as an important utility for people's basic movements within traditional rituals such as festivals for the good harvest or Bon, funeral and etc. East is always considered superior direction when it comes to accommodation and space surrounding it. Especially on the day of Hare, the special days, such order is clearly aware of and the establishment of Hinpun is apparently linked with this methodical order. The survey on Hinpun which has been commonly placed for accommodations in the regions under Ryukyu culture from the point of view of transfiguration would show us the cultural characteristics of Yaeyama region.
