The 1920s, in Shanghai saw three stages of the increase in film production: preparation (~1923), competition (1924~1926), and selection and survival (1927~). This increase was synchronized with the formation of the network of Chinese filmmaking, distribution, and exhibition, which was led by Star Motion Pictures Co. The management of Star Motion Pictures Co. was rather unique. It incorporated famous personalities in the fiel of drama and other arts or let their film companies to mobilize in its network of distribution and exhibition. To a certain extent, their connection extended to some film censorship organizations as well.
