These three waves brought about great changes in Japanese society. The manner in which these three developments followed one after another is as follows : Industrialization first brought on technological movements and innovation and, secondly, internationalization, and this in turn finalty brought affluence into the life of the nation. Since all internationalization is led by industrialization, it follows that these two phenomena are closely related. Since the Meiji Restoration we also have undergone three new waves of development : This second wave is the Automation Revolution in the 1950s. The third wave in the ME revolution in the latter half of the 1970s. In order to stabilize the unbalance caused by the waves of development on by industrialization, the smaller waves of internationalization and increasing affluence were used to restore a balance. It is in this fashion that our industrial society has been advancing. Industrial relations have been altered greatly by these three waves of industrialization and by the smaller waves of internationalization and growing affluence.
