Studies on Internet usage have also rapidly developed in order to make use of applications over these five years. When the strengths and weaknesses of Internet surveys are discussed, they are often implicitly or explicitly compared with mail surveys. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review the results of the comments and studies which have been published so far by professionals concerning the Internet surveys and to examine the state of the art in Internet surveys. Most of the problems addressed in the studies of Internet surveys are common to those that mail survey researchers faced in the almost eighty years history of their studies. Knowledge concerning the methodology of mail surveys which has accumulated over many decades should contribute to the future development of Internet surveys. Conversely, studies having to do with the methodology of Internet surveys should stimulate the development of mail survey research.
