He also showed the importance of interaction between helpers and recipients. This study tried to clarify the psychological effcts of helping behavior, especially on helpers. It focused on interactions between helpers and recipients in daily lives. We chose one type of voluntary work in a computer learning class, opened in a health institution for the elderly, and carried out over a 10 month period. Participant observation and interviews of 13 volunteers were made to see their helping behavior, and how it effected the helpers in real contexts. The findings of this field work are as follows : volunteer helpers obtained positive effects on the self, interpersonal aspects, and on theirs lives by working voluntarily in the computer learning class. They realized positive effects of their helping behavior on recipients. Those effects were caused by the interactions between volunteers and participants, and also among volunteers themselves. These findings confirmed Takagi's model.
