Cotton Vitellius F vii, Emily Hope Alien concluded that the Vitellius manuscript must have been given by Joan Holand to Eleanor Cobham, the second wife of Humphrey Duke of Gloucester. In this paper I have re-examined the evidence. I propose that the French text of Ancrene Wisse in the Vitellius manuscript might have been written sometime while Joan Holand's great grandmother, Joan de Geneville (1285-1356), was young, in or around Wigmore or Ludlow. Both places have a strong connection with one of the earliest copies of Ancrene Wisse in English.}, pages = {A67--A77}, title = {魔女の手に渡ったAncrene Wisse : London, British Library, MS.
