| 内容記述 | The subject of this novel of improbabilities is the arse, the seat of the last great taboo in the civilised society. Oilei Bomboki, the protagonist of the novel, who is an important citizen of a small island country in the South Pacific, wakes one morning with an excruciating pain in his anus. Bomboki anxiously searches for a cure, goes through a series of unsuccessful treatments at the hands of various healers and doctors, culminating in a bizarre operation, and eventually seeks the help of Babu Vivekanand, the yogi, sage and conman. The whole novel is the metaphor and comments on the pain created in the Pacific by colonialism and neo-colonialism. It is constructed as an uncouth parody of the philosophical idea of "What we call the beginning is often the end/And to make an end is to make a beginning/The end is where we start from…" of T. S. Eliot. Bomboki has given himself that licence of the clown in the South Pacific ;he farts freely, swears, and uses every bad language, but he really is looking for the renewal of humanity. Kisses is a new kind of satire-a satire of the clown. | |||||
