内容記述 | There have been a lot of accumulations of researches on the current Jing Hang Canal, the Great Canal, originating in Tbngzhou in the suburbs of Beijing, through Tianjin, Shandon Province, Jiangsu Province, and reaching Zhejiang Province. Especially the research on the Canal in the Qing Dynasty has been discussed from the viewpoint with the history of transportation systems mainly for the rice as taxes. In this paper, the transportation in the Qing Dynasty is discussed from the viewpoint of water transportation based on the dang'an materials. The vessels engaged in the transportation in the Great Canal in the Qing Dynasty carried about 500 shi of rice each and sailed at the average of 27.6 li a day. When they returned to the south with no load, they sailed at the average of 43 Ii a day, about 1. 6 times faster than when they had rice on board. The difference between the two conditions is obvious. More than 4000 vessels sailed in the Great Canal a year, from Human, Hubei, Juangi, Zhejiang, Jiangnan, Henan, Shandong Provinces to Tianjin and Tongzhou. It is known that in Yangzhou where the Great Canal crosses the Chang Jiang, more than 50,000 vessels cleared the customs a year in 1757 and 1758, and more than 66,000 vessels in 1790. So it is estimated that the total number of vessels which was used for the transportation of the rice as taxes was equivalent to about 10 % of all the vessels sailed on the Great Canal. | |||||
