| 内容記述 | 本稿の目的は，戦後東京における「バタヤ」の住まいの場であった「バタヤ街」の空間的社会的状況とその変容過程を明らかにすることである。まず「バタヤ街」の劣悪な住環境は，前近代的な封建的関係性によって強化され，住宅供給や清掃事業における「絶対必要な存在」との社会的位置づけによって固定化されていた。そして「バタヤ街」には戦前起源と戦後起源があるように，その生成時期は多様であるとともに，消滅過程も決して直線的ではなく，段階的であった。1950年代前半から行政による撤去が実施されていたが，立退者に対しては保護施設に収容するなど，場当たり的対応だったため，その数は減少することはなかった。ただ，一般社会から見えやすい場所からの撤去が進んだことで，都市空間における不可視化が進展していた。1960年代に入ると，都市景観の整備や廃品回収業における設備の近代化によってその存在価値が減退するなか，公営住宅斡旋へと行政対応が変化したことで，「バタヤ街」は消滅へと向かったのである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | This paper clarified the spatial and social circumstances of "ragpicker slums" in post-war Tokyo, and the process of change in such slums. Firstly, the poor living conditions in "ragpicker slums" were intensified by pre-modern feudal relationships, and social status in housing supply and waste services consolidated these relationships. There were also diverse periods of formation as "ragpicker slums" have pre-war and post-war origins. Moreover, the elimination of "ragpicker slums" was by no means linear, but proceeded in phases. From the first half of the 1950s, removal was implemented by the government, but there was no decrease in the number of such slums due to the ad hoc nature of the measures used for those evicted, such as accommodation in public shelters. However, removal from "visible locations" proceeded, and "ragpicker slums" became increasingly invisible in urban space. In the 1960s, as the existential value of "ragpicker slums" declined due to the improvement of urban landscapes and the modernization of waste recovery facilities, the administrative response shifted to public housing services ; thus, "ragpicker slums" headed toward extinction. | |||||
