However, research on this subject has been rather limited. It is against this backdrop that the present study first explores exactly what a Jia-li style tomb is by examining tombs of this kind widely constructed in China and Korea. Having thus established a model the study employs field surveys and examines historical materials to ascertain genuine examples of Jia-li style tombs existing in Japan. Discussion is limited to the tombs of the \"Hayashi-shi Bochi\" graveyard.
