| 内容記述 | 新選挙制度の効果を見るため，1995年の参議院選挙から1996年の衆議院選挙前調査の間の政党支持の変化と衆議院選挙前後調査の間の変化を検討したところ，民主党の結成を中心とする政党再編成の効果，上位二党への分極化傾向，選挙争点の影響が認められた．本稿は，分極化，政党再編成，選挙効果の三面から，この間の政党支持と投票政党の消長を分析し，分極化傾向の程度とその特性を探ることを目的とする．この選挙に特有な要因，例えば，消費税増税問題の影響，候補者の個人的魅力，選挙運動接触などについて，有力候補投票よりも大きな効果を持ったものがないか，投票決定を説明する変数群を検討した．自民党候補への投票者グループでは，有力候補投票にまさる説明要因はない．自民党への投票者グループでは一党集中化を含む分極化論がよく当てはまる．新進党投票者については，自民党はじめその他の政党からの新参入者では，選挙運動接触が最も効果的で，有力候補投票がこれに次いでいる．有力候補投票と選挙運動接触の関係は重なりは大きいが，どちらの変数も他の変数が説明できなかった部分の半分ぐらいを説明しており，相互補完的に働いている．新進党投票は有力候補投票だけでは説明できないが，選挙運動接触の影響を合わせると，かなりの程度説明可能になる． | |||||

| 内容記述 | This article is an attempt to examine how votes were concentrated on the top two parties in the 1996 general election which was the first election conducted under the new Japanese electoral system. It is said that, under simple majority rule, voters usually vote for the top two strongest candidates. This really took place in this election and there was a strong tendency toward two-partyism. However, the distribution of the votes between the top two parties, LDP and NFP was not even. The resultant system is a dominant one party system with the LDP as the dominant party, rather than a two-party system, which was expected. This is because voters tended to vote for the candidate with the highest chance of winning the election and most of them were from the LDP. | |||||
