Cotton gained fame across the Ming Dynasty, and during the Qing Dynasty, it began to be exported to Europa from Canton China. However, the importation of cotton from overseas to Guangzhou began during the Qinglong year. The importation was soon banned; however, cotton was still continuously imported from India to Guangzhou owing to the constant consumption established in the Guangzhou market.
