Art historians have long defined Rosetsu as an artist solely of Kyoto style, but in this article, I intend to propound a new interpretation of Rosetsu's paintings in terms of his relationship with Osaka. Rosetsu, late in his career, was deeply drawn toward the expression of the spiritual and the fantastical. Certainly, one can attribute his late predisposition to his individual uniqueness; however, at the same time, the influence of his contemporaries must be considered to be an important factor.
