| 内容記述 | Nakatani Ganko (1868-1937), noted Japanese sculptor, regarded the sculpture form as a fine art and worked earlier in the transition period from an ornament for Tokonoma to a fine art of the values in the sculpture. He specialized in the genre of the female figure in color and was appreciated in some of Tokyo's artistic circles, but was largely unknown today, as were his creative activities, and most of his works have sadly been lost. As a result, academic work on Modern Japanese Wood Sculptures has been generally silent, and, thus, is unable to shed a substantial light on either the background to, or circumstances behind, the sculpture genre. This paper looks at the predicament of the modern wood sculpture genre, and in so doing attempts to cast light on Ganko's contribution in terms of the genre. | |||||
