| 内容記述 | This paper looks at how Lafcadio Hearn in his role as a journalist viewed China and Japan. It is believed that it was in New Orleans that Hearn became interested in Japanese culture after seeing the exhibits in the Japanese pavilion at the New Orleans World Exposition held in 1884. However he also viewed the Chinese exhibit, and subsequently wrote about it in a review. Furthermore he also published a book on China in 1887, named Some Chinese Ghosts. Afterwards Hearn went to Japan and became an English teacher. In 1894, after moving to Kobe under the invitation of the foreign owned newspaper The Kobe Chronicle, he once again practiced journalism. In The Kobe Chronicle he wrote much about the first Sino-Japanese war. From the above it can be seen that Hearn had always maintained an interest in China, and especially in connection with Japan. | |||||
