Jinsai holds that Confucius could\nnot be so positive to discuss the topic of ghosts and spirits, so he believes that\nchapter 16 is written by posterity and then inserted into The Doctrine of Mean.\nAs a result, this chapter cannot connect with the upper and lower chapters,\nwhich negates the integrity and continuity of the text of The Doctrine of Mean.\nJinsai’s assertion aff ects a number of annotators after him.
