| 内容記述 | In Japan’s early Edo period, Confucian scholars Yamazaki Ansai and his sect of Zhuism inherit Zhu Xi’s interpretation of Chapter 16 of The Doctrine of Mean and emphesize that there are real ghosts and spirits and that its truth is affi rmed by the meaning of sincerity. Meanwhile, Itô Jinsai launches the Retro Confucianism Movement, which makes the Four Books, as the center of the Confucian classics system of Zhuism, collapse. Jinsai holds that Confucius could not be so positive to discuss the topic of ghosts and spirits, so he believes that chapter 16 is written by posterity and then inserted into The Doctrine of Mean. As a result, this chapter cannot connect with the upper and lower chapters, which negates the integrity and continuity of the text of The Doctrine of Mean. Jinsai’s assertion aff ects a number of annotators after him. From their interpretations and explarations of this chapter, We can see Zhuism’s acceptance, development and change in Japan’s Edo period. |
