However, the sacred creature was usually depicted as the grim, evil monster, the western dragon, in 19th century western pictorials. In several caricatures, the western dragon in famous Christian tale, ‶St. George and the dragon\" was replaced by the Chinese one, as an allegory of the contradiction between China and Western countries.
