| 内容記述 | Hostilities between Japan and Korea that resulted from Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s invasions were officially ended with the beginning of the Edo Period. Goodneighbourly relationship was regained, followed by a series of diplomatic ceremonies, most of which were held in Tsushima Domain instead of Edo City. Geographical closest to Korea, Tsushima Domain was in charge of practical affairs in the contact with Korea throughout the Edo Period. There emerged a large group of interpreters whose mastery of Korean enabled them to communicate directly with Korean diplomats, officials, sometimes even merchants and commoners, therefore their understanding of Korea is considered to be the most realistic of that time. This thesis focuses on Oda Ikugorou, an active Chief Interpreters of Tsushima Domain, and by discussing his understanding of Korea through a study of his life and works, aims at revealing some key points and the significance of his understanding as Chief Interpreter. |
