| 内容記述 | This essay focuses on the "Myths and Worship of China" article that Lafcadio Hearn written for The Times-Democrat in Feb 17, 1885, when he was living in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have translated this article first time, and do a study about it. Then I found out that "Myths and Worship of China" is actually a description for the Mardi Gras float drawings, which had been publish with 1885's Carnival bulletins. He descripted all the 18 float and designs, all of them is about Chinese mythology, with quote a lot of Chinese classic literary work. But as we known, Lafcadio Hearn couldn't read in Chinese, and he never been to China. Then, what kind of book he actually consulted ? In this essay, I explained the background about "Myths and Worship of China". And I also do a research about this article, find out the literary Lafcadio Hearn consulted when he writing about the following subject in "Myths and Worship of China" : POUAN-KOU, NIU-VA, and TOWER OF FO KIEN. | |||||
