| 内容記述 | In the year of 1907, Han Zhaofan made an official tour of inspection of prisons, including different types of reformed and unreformed jails in Jiangshu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. He also visited Western style jails and lockups within the European and American concessions in Shanghai. Afterwards he travelled to Japan for similar visits across the country and for special tutorial by Ogawa Sigejirou, the great master of Japanese prionology. Han's various accounts and notes on this tour, published in a collection, are not only a clear reflection of the reality of jails in China and Japan against the background of current prison reforms, but also a professional insight into the problems of prison reform in China. The book also contains a record of Ogawa's personal thoughts on prison reform in Japan that he had initiated and was about to renew. The present essay rediscovers this valuable report, which has soon disappeared into history shortly after it appeared. | |||||
