Chinese culture had a prominent part in the movement. Ernest Fenollosa regarded Chinese written character as an ideal medium for poetry. His points were far from invulnerable, but inspired Ezra Pound greatly. Ezra Pound exerted the points completely, and pushed on the Imagist Movement strongly. In the sense of opposing symbolism, the Chinese image sent out a pivotal voice of imagism. Their understanding was not accurate, but stressed the special quality distinguishing "image" from "symbol". The "artistic conception" of Chinese classical poetry made up a dimension of introspection for western culture. Through the poetics of Chinese written character and imagism, Chinese culture became a perfect totem in the blank spot of western culture.
