| 内容記述 | This essay explicates Chu Hsi's conception of kuei-shen in terms of ch'i and sacrifice. Chu holds that even though actually ancestral ch'i has completely dispersed and disappeared, descendants with the feelings of sincerity and respect can call forth the ch'i of their ancestors. That is because as long as the image of ancestors is presenting in the consciousness of descendants when properly practicing the sacrifice, the ancestral ch'i lingers and recoalesces. Thus Chu's theories of ch'i and sacrifice are connected coherently. In this view, only in the performance of sacrificial rites, sacrificer can confirm the existence of kuei-shen. In this way, the existence of kuei-shen is concrete (not universal) and it has no independent existence beyond the sacrificial activities and relevant conceptions. | |||||
