In the 1920's Huo Sang was called the Oriental Holms (東方福爾摩斯)， and scholars recognized him as a copy of Sherlock Holmes. Huo Sang was the symbol of modern times, he had a western knowledge and he criticized the Chinese society of those times. However the character of Huo Sang in the 1940's was very different from the same character in the 1920's. This paper aims to discuss what this difference is.
