| 内容記述 | Joseph de Prémare (1666-1736) was a French Jesuit who came to China during the reign of the Qing dynasty emperor, Kangxi. Thirty years in China, he became one of the leading Figurists, but also well known for his profound knowledge of the Chinese language among the Jesuits in China. He wrote many works on Figurism; none, however, were allowed to be published at the time. His representative work, Notitia Linguae Sinicae (1728), was known the most authoritative Chinese grammar book until the 19th century, and was highly praised by missionaries and sinologists. De Prémare’s translation,L’Orphelin de la maison de Tchao (1731), made hims the first to introduce Chinese drama to Europe. Furthermore, he wrote a short novel entitled Meng Mei Tu Si (1709) [夢美土祀], which is perhaps the first novel written in Chinese by a Western missionary.Nevertheless, contemporary research on de Prémare fails to match his remarkable contribution to the history of Christianity in China, to the history of western Sinology and to the worldwide history of Chinese language instruction. This thesis will therefore focus on de Prémare’s life and summarize his academic achievements, the intent being to construct a biography and also to provide additional historical materials to academia. | |||||
