The present paper\ninvestigates the Chinese translation of Japanese books on prisons during this period. Of\nthe thirty-two books in examined, which may be classified either as monographs or\nencyclopedic works, eighteen are by Dr. Ogawa Sigejiro, the foremost authority of prison\nstudy in Japan.
