Tōju was sympathetic to the traditional Chinese beliefs towards “the supreme” and created his own unique thought based on this and his own experiences. First is the conflicting “true nature” 本来性 and “realism” 現実性, both of which are posited in the differing dimensions of “ideal” and “real”: the all encompassing “supreme” versus the acquired life of humanity are juxtaposed. Second, with the Ryochi 良知 which plays a figure as certain persona of the will of supreme, morality is subsumed into religious belief. The important practice of filial piety also finally returns to the reverence with which the supreme, or the Great Father, are held.
