Concrete examples are drawn from communities in Westminster where Vietnamese are concentrated and communities in Seattle where they are scattered. The network supporting the mother tongue is analyzed at three levels–micro, mezzo and macro–in each community using the data collected from interviews of key persons, observations and visits to high schools, language schools, and NGOs.
