 note = {In German-speaking Switzerland, its standard variety of the German language is principally used as a written language, and dialects of each region are made use of in conversation of any situation and formality, which is characterized as diglossia. A new tendency is, however, to be observed that the Swiss German standard variety is being codified more than ever and dialects are more often used also in those situations where the standard variety has been used.
