In a section called "Search : 1920-1930" in Anthropologist at Work, Margaret Mead describes the turbulent years at Columbia University between 1920-1930. In her description of Franz Boas, it is clear that Mead had great respect for Boas' commitment to anthropology and his courage to stand up for his beliefs. On the other hand, Mead puts a little too much emphasis on how anthropology saved Benedict from her boring middle class domestic life with her self-absorbed husband. The word search in the title of this section not only refers to Benedict's search for something that gave meaning to her life, but also to Boas' search for patterns in different cultures, and search for the role of anthropologists in times of war.}, pages = {109--126}, title = {[研究ノート] ルース・ベネディクトの「模索時代 (1920-1930年)」の解説に表れるマーガレット・ミードの私的見解}, volume = {20}, year = {2019} }
