While only two out of the sixteen surveyed regions in Southwestern Mandarin indicate that adjectives cannot independently function as predicates, there is a lack of detailed discussion on the meanings associated with “comparison or contrast” and “incompleteness of statement.” This study therefore advocates that a comprehensive evaluation involving additional dialect areas is essential. Additionally, it reveals that “很” generally acts as a complement in colloquial speech.
