G. スミス、F. バルト、C. レスリー、H. ベア、M.ストラザーンの議論の検討を通して、人類学において多元という概念がどのように使われてきたのか、その論理的な更新の展開を追跡していく。この作業を通じて、多元社会という概念が、多元主義、複数民族社会システムを経て、ポスト多元的な世界という発想へと結実した流れを描き出すことが本論の目的である。 By examining the arguments of J. S. Furnivall, J. C. Mitchell, M. G. Smith, F. Barth, C. Leslie, H. Baer, and M. Strathern, this paper traces the development of the concept of the plural in social anthropology from the 1940s to the 1990s.
