江戸时代后半期大阪汉诗社研究初探 Brief Study of Sinitic Poetry Societies in Osaka during the Latter Half of the Edo Period 郭, 凝恩 Edo period Osaka Sinitic poetry Poetry Societies 関西大学 Kansai University In the Edo period, the official scholarship of Confucianism flourished. Under the influence of the strong cultural and educational policies implemented by the shogunate government, many private schools that taught Confucianism appeared in succession. While studying Confucian classics, students were also taught how to compose Sinitic poetry. These private schools held poetry meetings to strengthen students' learning of Chinese language. However, with development in education on composing Sinitic poetry, literati who were good at and loved such poetry gradually began to separate the composing of Sinitic poetry from learning Confucianism. They invited companions, established rules for their poetry groups, and convened poetry meeting regularly. They called these associations "Poetry Societies". This paper will focus on five Sinitic poetry societies that appeared in Osaka in the latter half of the Edo period.
