<datacite:description descriptionType="Other">The copy of Wakan roeishu housed at Kansai University Library is a set of two companion manuscript scrolls believed to have been transcribed during the Kamakura period (1185–1333). Many such handwritten copies of Wakan roeishu exist, but what makes the Ikuta Family copy noteworthy are the annotations written on the verso (uragaki) of the first scroll. These
annotations were made by Oe no Masafusa, and are known as the “Roei gochu.” Several other manuscript copies of Wakan roeishu are also known to contain the “Roei gochu,” such as the Jowa manuscript. But in the Jowa and other manuscript copies, other notes have also been interpolated into the text, so they cannot be regarded as pristine examples of the “Roei gochu.” Given these circumstances, the Ikuta Family manuscript seems to correspond more closely to the characteristics one would expect of a manuscript that had been in Oe no Masafusa’s possession, and thus may be closer to the original text. The paper then reprints the uragaki annotations and the relevant portions of the main text of the Ikuta Family manuscript and presents them for
comparison.</datacite:description>
