<datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Other">In the first decade of the 20ᵀᴴ century, a large number of China’s cultural relics were brought and sold to the West and Japan due to the Boxer War and the collapse of the Qing dynasty. In the meantime, both of Japan and China began to adopt the “collotype” technology from the West in order to preserve the original images of those cultural relics, especially the fine calligraphic and pictorial works. In order to restore and pass down the cultural tradition to the generations to come, Luo Zhenyu end Nitō Konan made great efforts in the period of early Republican China and Taishō Japan, especially when the Sui Ding Daohu shu Qifa-si Bei was published in the early 1920s in Japan. The present paper aims at clarifying their spirit of transmitting the antiquity and their preference of utilizing the “collotype” technology through an examination of the correspondences, prefaces and postscripts written by the two scholars.</datacite:description>
