Mantegna (1998) proposed a new method detecting the existence of the economic information stored in the time series of stock prices. He used correlation coefficient to evaluate the distance between stocks and reveal the spatial structure of stocks traded in a financial market. In this paper, we apply his method to consumption data and explain a hierarchical structure of food consumption.
