| 内容記述 | The reliable copy of Zhang Shizhai's (1738-1801) writings bought by Naito Konan (1866-1934) in 1919 from the Rakuzendo shoyakubo in Shanghai made it possible for Naito to compile his renowned chronological record of Zhang's life for publication in the newly initiated journal Shinagaku in late 1920. Both of Hu Shih and Yao Mingda highly evaluated the manuscript before and even after several printed versions of Zhang's writings appeared in 1921 and 1922. The present article, based on a thorough exploration of related materials, argues that the original text of the manuscript was made by Shen Xiaxi (1779-1850), Zhang's fellow townsman and a prominent book collector, and kept by Zhang's clansmen Zhang Xiaoya and Zhang Shiqing with the help of Xiao Mu(1834-1904), a dedicated documentalist and an admirer of Zhang, and that the manuscript was made by the order in fall 1896 of Sun Wenqing (1861-1918), the Presented Scholar of 1889 and a rich book collector, and the copying work by a group of Xiucai including the promising young scholar Jin Xingxiang (1878-1941), was completed in the beginning of 1897. | |||||
